Movies
should premiere on-line to reach out to a larger audience. Nowadays most of the
people prefer to watch movies sitting at home because it is easier to watch a
movie on the Internet rather than go to the movie theatre or rent a dvd. Almost
38.8% of the world’s population uses the Internet as per the International
Telecommunications Union. Movies watched on the Internet with high definition
blu-ray technology with new consumer-friendly devices such as Apple TV,
Playstations and web-enables TVs, will give the same experience to the watcher.
Since 2007, the DVD market for the companies has gone down. The reason for this
decrease is the increase of online movie rental options
like Netflix, Redbox and Yotube. The Internet will provide a larger audience
for the premiere of a new movie with the existing ones already going to the
movie theatre. This will increase their revenues as they can charge a fee from
the user for the premiere and reduce the piracy of the movie. The recent
example is the movie “Bachelorette” which was
released on the Internet before the theatres. This experiment was successful
for the low budget movie, as it became the top film rental on iTunes within 36
hours of release. The movie grossed the same amount in 3 days, as it would do
in the theatres. This shows that people are ready to see movie premieres
on-line at their own convenient time, place and surroundings. Internet will provide a
global platform for the movie to be launched and reach out to the people in
towns and villages where a theatre would not show that particular movie.
